Republic Hall has launched its 50th year week celebrations with the theme, "Contribution of Republic Hall and Mongols to National Development".
In his welcome address, Dr. Eric Asare the Hall Master deemed it a great joy to be part of the week celebrations and welcomed all and sundry (past and present Mongols inclusive) to the official launching of the Hall's Golden Jubilee celebrations. He noted that this year's celebrations commemorated the 50th birthday of the Hall since its establishment. He commended various hall administrators and management who have in diverse ways contributed to the development and maintenance of the hall through the years. He recounted the hall's achievements and challenges since its inception and applauded Mongols who have also contributed their quota to the success of development in the country.
The Hall President Mr. George Agyemang Frimpong gave a brief history of the hall and the development initiatives executed by his office for the hall in his opening address. Some of the notable achievements the President mentioned were: the constitutional review of the hall to reflect current trends, provision of 50th anniversary branded exercise books, the provision of hall T-shirts and wrist bands, the purchase of a brand new P.A system and stabilizer and also a brand new Dell PC set with printer and UPS for the JCRC office. For the hall developments the President stated the following: the construction of a state of art washroom at the basement of 'Side 14' of the hall, provision of fans in all the rooms in the main section of the hall, refurbishment of all the washrooms in the hall, massive improvement in sanitation and lighting system, and provision of two poly tanks to supplement the existing ones, among others.
In the Review Officer's address, he emphasised the need of career development for Mongols by the University through creating job oriented programmes. He also encouraged present student Mongols to promote original research and develop outreach programmes to develop rural areas. He congratulated the cadet corps for their outstanding performance during the function and tasked them to be disciplined and assist the security personnel in maintaining law and order on campus.
In the Chairman's (Prof. R.C. Abaidoo, Provost of College of Agriculture and Natural Resources) closing remarks, he celebrated Republic Hall for its contributions to the growth of the University. He reiterated the importance of discipline and encouraged Mongols to continue uplifting the good image of the University wherever they may find themselves.
Other related events were: the due launching of the hall week celebrations, commissioning of a monument and a tour of the various goods and services exhibited for the celebrations.
